Dear friends and family,
Many of you have already heard that our dear friend Peggy Ahn Koyanagi was recently diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). She began an intensive course of treatment and is currently hospitalized at Kaiser in West Los Angeles, where she is expected to remain for an additional few weeks while receiving chemotherapy.
Down the road, once a compatible donor is identified, Peggy will undergo a bone marrow transplant at City of Hope in Duarte. This procedure allows doctors to replace Peggy’s diseased bone marrow with healthy stem cells. Prior to the transplant, Peggy will continue to receive additional rounds of intensive chemotherapy to eliminate the leukemia and prepare her body to accept the donor cells. These cells will be infused through an IV, similar to a blood transfusion. Peggy will remain hospitalized for approximately five to six weeks while doctors monitor her closely as the new cells begin producing healthy blood cells — a process known as engraftment. After discharge, recovery and monitoring will continue for three to six months as her immune system gradually rebuilds.
As you can imagine, this is an incredibly challenging time for Peggy and her family. Eric continues to work freelance in the volatile entertainment industry while caring for their two beautiful young daughters, Delphine and Luna, who remain very busy with middle school and extracurricular activities.
Anyone who knows Peggy knows the light she brings to others. She is thoughtful, strong, deeply devoted to her family, and the kind of friend who shows up with warmth, humor, and generosity. Peggy has spent so much of her life caring for the people around her, and now it is our turn to surround her and her family with the same love and support she has always given so freely.
Because so many people have asked how they can help, we have created this GoFundMe as the simplest and most meaningful way to support Peggy and her family during this difficult time.
Peggy’s battle to defeat AML will be a long and unpredictable road, and the financial impact of extended treatment, time away from work and normal routines, and caring for a family is significant. Contributions will help ease that burden by supporting medical expenses, supplemental transportation, additional family meals, and the many unexpected needs that arise along the way. The extra support will also help to give Peggy and her family the peace of mind they need to focus on her challenging recovery and to keep life moving forward for her daughters.
Any financial gift, any positive words of encouragement, or messages of love and support are all so meaningful and truly helpful for Peggy in her journey back to health. If you are able to give, any amount is deeply appreciated. And if not, please share this page and keep Peggy, Eric, Delphine, and Luna in your thoughts and prayers.
We will also be sharing updates through CaringBridge for those who would like to follow Peggy’s journey more closely:
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support. It truly means more than words can express.
