WHO WE ARE
We are a team of dedicated health clinicians focused on improving the use of antibiotic therapy at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) in Kisumu County, Kenya. We are focused on improving antibiotic use in the most vulnerable population, babies and children, at the Obama Children's Hospital wing of JOOTRH.
Antibiotic resistance is a growing global health problem. One of the best tools to fight it is an antibiogram—a simple table that shows which antibiotics work best against the bacteria causing infections in the community. This guides doctors to choose the right treatment faster, saving lives and slowing the growing resistance.
WHY WE NEED SUPPORT
We are committed to continuing this vital work, but funding remains a challenge. Your donations will directly support:
1. Project continuation – purchasing blood culture bottles and essential lab equipment to complete the antibiogram. The project began in January 2025 and needs about 12 more months to finish.
2. Team support – helping our team attend the IPNET Conference in Mombasa to share our preliminary results, learn from other experts in the field, and enhance our capacity to fight antimicrobial resistance locally. Funds will cover registration, accommodation, and transport. We hope to send all members of our team to the conference in recognition of their hard work and dedication to this vital project.
WHY IT MATTERS
This work will not only impact Kisumu County but also contribute to the wider efforts in Kenya and East Africa to combat antibiotic resistance. By supporting us, you are investing in better healthcare for children today and healthier future for next generations.
