Hello, my name is Amelia. I'm a part time student at UTSA working a full time job that barely pays the bills. Pecan went to the vet 12/3 for some respitory issues and was given antibiotics and steroids. She improved up until Sunday evening. She began hiding and refused to eat. She's super food motivated and loves her special chair out in the living room, so this was very unusual for her. Monday night, 12/8, around 11pm, I found her food uneaten and piled up for what seemed to be a full day's meals. She had been hiding in a cubby all day and when I brought her out, I discovered she was having labored breathing and she would not even fight me as I touched areas of her body that would normally cause her to hiss. We brought Pecan in around 11pm to the emergency vet, where we were guilt tripped into a $4000 overnight stay for her, being told that taking her home would put her at risk of destabilizing. The vet even suggested euthanizing her if we can't afford her care. It would cost $600 to just take her home with more steroids and antibiotics. After lots of crying and deliberation, we decided to admit her overnight. The vet, after 2 hours of waiting and coming up with the funds, decided to inform us AFTER we agreed to one 24 hour stay, that she may need more than 24 hours. We are needing help paying this bill that we were guilt tripped into for no apparent reason beyond her needing an oxygen chamber and some X-rays. I am living paycheck to paycheck between school and bills and would appreciate any help with this money burden.
