Hi, my name is Marie Kaller and I have a 16-year-old mini long-haired dachshund dapple. Her name is Pebbles. She has been by my side when the rest of the world turned their backs. I got her at a pet store at the Westminster Mall in California, and she actually picked us . My husband was tall, and she was in the bottom row. When he walked by, she started jumping and scratching at the glass. Then he kept walking, and she sat there so sad. My daughter and I called him back, and she started jumping so excitedly! Just so happened, a person that worked there was behind us and asked if we wanted a room. Mark had no intentions of getting a dog... but once we met her, she was ours. She was just a little ball of energy with a personality to match.
Pebbles has a huge tumor on her side, and the last doctor she saw said that because of her age, surgery is not an option. The tumor is not cancerous and is benign. The doctor then told me that tumors are prone to her breed. She had one surgery about 6 years ago for a tumor, and it was very hard on her. It took her almost 2 days to just wake up from the anesthesia. As long as she's okay and it doesn't bother her, and she's not in pain... honestly, she didn't really show signs of pain. Well, last week I noticed another tumor attached to the one she already has, and a couple of days ago, I noticed one on her neck and on her belly. She also has doggy dementia. I am going through all the emotions of having to end her suffering and let her have a peaceful journey to heaven. It's so hard, and I have to be strong. It's the hardest thing I'll ever have to do in my life. She's never been just a "pet"; she's my baby little girl.
Pebbles still has her moments of spinning around and jumping up when she gets excited, and that makes this decision so freaking hard. Am I making the right decision? I can't be selfish and keep her here with me. She has had a wonderfully crazy life with me, and now it's time for her next journey. I hope you can spare whatever you can to help me ease my baby's pain. Have a blessed day, and thank you for listening
