Peaberry Coffee, the beloved Oak Cliff neighborhood coffee shop in Kiestwood, is facing a critical turning point. For nearly 7 years, Peaberry has been more than a café — it’s been a cultural anchor, a community gathering space, and a homegrown labor of love built by Elijah Salazar and a small, dedicated team.
Peaberry has weathered the worst:
- The COVID-19 pandemic
- A rapidly aging building with a failing AC system
- Two break-ins in just 6 months (WFAA)
- An uphill battle to maintain a safe, viable space in a decaying (but beloved) strip center
Following months of multiple of robberies of the store and with triple-digit temperatures of the summer ahead facing the 80-year-old building without a working AC unit, Peaberry has realized a future in their current space is untenable - both for the safety and comfort of staff and customers alike.
Now it’s time to help them relocate to a new home — one that’s safer, more stable, and better equipped for their next chapter.
About the Business
Peaberry is owned and run by Oak Cliff born-and-raised local Elijah Salazar. His approach is simple and honest: treat everyone who walks through the door like family.
“We just want to serve people, serve good coffee, and do our best to be authentic and kind. It’s just us. It’s just our family.” — Elijah Salazar (VoyageDallas)
This spirit is what’s made Peaberry so essential to the neighborhood. It’s not part of a chain. It’s not a corporate model. It’s a hand-built, love-powered space for the people of Oak Cliff.
What the Funds Will Support
We’re raising $15,000 to support the next phase of Peaberry Coffee. This amount represents not the whole cost of this transition for Peaberry, but a significant, foundational stepping-stone in helping the small family business find their new home.
Your contribution will go directly toward:
Expense Estimated Cost
- Rent Deposit + 2 Months at New Site $4,000-6,000
- Moving Fees, Equipment Transport + Setup $2,000-3,500
- Permits, Insurance, Basic Repairs $1,800-3,500
- Back-pay to suppliers and staff $1,800-2,500
- Marketing, Signage, Grand Reopening $1,000-1,500
TOTAL $15,000
Anything raised beyond that will go toward heat-proofing and summer prep, extra staffing, and future-proofing the new space.
The Road Ahead - Planning for the Future
No fundraising goal means anything without a clear plan to put it into action. Peaberry Coffee isn’t a plug-and-play business—it’s a labor of love, built with care, intention, and authenticity. Finding a new home will take work, creativity, and community—but they're ready.
Elijah and the Peaberry team are actively searching for a new location in Oak Cliff that better supports the safety, sustainability, and vision of the shop. While the space must be right, their passion, perseverance, and deep desire to get back to serving the neighborhood they love is what’s driving every step of this journey.
Here’s what they anticipate:
- Next 30 days – Secure a new location and begin the build-out
- Following weeks – Finalize inspections, train staff, and relaunch with a refreshed space and renewed energy
The goal is not just to reopen—but to grow into a more resilient, welcoming, and community-focused version of what Peaberry has always been.
- "We love our staff. We love our customers. And we’re doing everything in our power to keep both together, to bring this space back to life—quickly, but meaningfully." - Elijah Salazar
This isn’t a goodbye. It’s a new beginning.
With your help, the doors will open again—and soon.

Built by Family, Rooted in Oak Cliff
Peaberry Coffee is family-owned, minority-owned, and 100% Oak Cliff born and raised. Founder Elijah Salazar grew up just blocks from the shop’s location and built Peaberry from the ground up with a group of local friends and family. They aren’t just business owners—they’re your neighbors.
- “We’re just a small family trying to make a difference in the neighborhood we love. Oak Cliff is our home. It’s where we grew up, and it’s who we serve.” — Elijah Salazar

Why It Matters
Peaberry Coffee has hosted local artisans, sponsored Muralfest, regularly invited small and family businesses to exhibit their goods at pop-ups within the shop, and given emerging creators a platform. They’ve supported their neighbors. Now it’s time for us to support them.
- Donate, share, and help Peaberry find its new home.
- Tag us with #SavePeaberry and spread the word.
- Let’s make sure Peaberry isn’t just remembered — it’s revived.
With your help, Elijah, his team, and the Peaberry faithful can rise again — stronger, safer, and more energized than ever.
