My dog Pax, a 6yo German Shepard, has racked up some vet bills after tearing a ligament in his knee when we were camping this summer.
He had surgery on October 16th and it seemed like he was healing up well. We were scheduled to have his stitches removed on Tuesday, but apparently he got impatient. Last night, he managed to get out of his cone and chew the stitches in his incision, opening it up nearly to the bone.
With it being the weekend, our only option was the emergency vet. They still have him and it’s pretty serious. There’s a chance he’ll need another surgery, but we’re hoping that won’t be necessary. If all goes well today, I’ll be able to get him this evening, however, this will delay his overall recovery and it’s added an additional expense.
The original knee surgery was almost $6000 and the emergency vet cost is between $2100-2900, if there are no additional complications. If he develops an infection they will need to do a revision surgery, which is not factored into the estimate, but I’m really hoping that won’t be necessary.
As with most folks these days, I don’t have $8000 just laying around and I could use some help. I work full time and am the primary caregiver for my mother, who lives with me, so my plate is pretty full. I don’t have the time for a side hustle to try and make extra money to cover emergencies like this.
Anything helps. Please share.
Thank you!
Kris and Pax
