Bridge to the Future: Building a Legacy for PAWS

Real change happens when a community comes together for those who cannot speak for themselves

A private donor has committed $100,000 to help PAWS secure our permanent, forever home. To unlock this gift, we need to show community support by raising an additional $55,000.

Pause Animal Wellness Sanctuary (PAWS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit in Colorado, dedicated to rescuing animals while creating mutual healing spaces for animals and the humans who care for them. PAWS exists to rescue animals from otherwise uncertain futures and to help them find homes and environments that truly support their nervous systems, well-being, and long-term stability; whether they remain with us for the length of their lives or are temporarily housed until we find their perfect forever home. Real change is never created alone, and meaningful acts of service require a village. Every year, millions of animals worldwide experience homelessness, neglect, abuse, and euthanasia due to overcrowded shelters, a lack of understanding, insufficient resources, and systemic limitations.

While official statistics vary as they do not account for the unreported and informal cases, the scope of the problem is clear: we are living amid a true animal crisis. At PAWS, we believe this crisis reflects a deeper disconnect in how humanity relates to animal life. Humans domesticated animals, yet too often, neglect their nature and needs, confine them to overcrowded systems, and attempt to look away from the consequences. Animals do not have a voice. They cannot advocate for themselves. Their well-being depends on human responsibility.

At PAWS, we accept this responsibility. We’re working toward creating a permanent sanctuary, a space that would allow us to care for hundreds of animals over time. A place where they are safe, loved, and given a real chance at a much better life.
