Dr. Paul Sokoloski, passed away on August 19, 2026.

Paul was born on July 12, 1969 in Bay City, Michigan. He spent his childhood in Shamokin, PA with his mother, grandmother, and many extended family members and friends. Paul graduated from Shamokin Area High School in 1987 and went on to attend Penn State University (class of 1991) and Jefferson Medical School (Class of 1996, Cum Laude, Resident Class of 1999). Paul spent nearly 30 years serving communities as an Emergency Room Physician at hospitals all over Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

Paul was known for his intellect and fierce determination. Raised in poverty in the shadow of the coal industry, he discovered his passion for medicine while serving as a firefighter/EMT in high school. He enlisted in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard in 1989 and continued to serve while completing college and medical school, earning the rank of Staff Sargent. Paul’s lived experience in rural Pennsylvania inspired his passion to serve communities like those he grew up in. His career spanned many hospitals in underserved areas around the tri-state.

Paul's unexpected death means that many of his financial obligations have fallen to his four young children. The family would greatly appreciate any help you could spare. Even if you are unable to donate, please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
