I'm sure most of you know that my mother, Paula, has had an unfortunate and long tenure diagnosis of metastatic ovarian cancer for 6.5+ years.
She beat the 15% survival odds of 5 years, about 18 months ago.
The last, near, 12+ months she has continued to fight (never giving up hope and being optimistic), knowing there is no future treatment as chemo/surgery didn't work, as it did the last 3 times.
This weekend, she had a fall that resulted in a very severe injury - broken hip. At this time, she is not an eligible candidate for surgery to repair the break, but she wants to come home, rather than stay in the hospital and/or rehabilitation facility. We all have high hopes she will rally and overcome, even knowing that she will suffer pain.
The first 4-6 weeks is 100% bed ridden, so she will require a lot of hands-on care.
The second 4-6 weeks will focus on sitting up (unassisted) and/or rotating in the bed... Maybe even being positioned in a wheelchair if her pain is managed enough for us to lift her and there is improvement in the healing of the break.
The final goal (another 4-6 weeks)... attempt to bare some weight, with a walker and/or the support of my father, myself, some close friends and hopefully nursing/PT/OT support.
As much as we do not want to ask for financial help, we need to ask as the insurance will not cover the expenses, but she wants to come home, which we will make happen to keep her comfortable.
Any/all help is for her care at home as it means the most her, my dad and myself to have her in the comfort of her home.
