Support Paula's Fight for Ashley's Law and Help with Funeral

Hello! My name is Jennifer, and our cousin Paula and her family need our help!

We are creating this GoFundMe to help alleviate the financial burden that Paula and her family have endured with the passing of her sweet daughter, Ashley.

Ashley Vigil was a beautiful 31-year-old young lady with Rett Syndrome who passed away on March 16th, 2024. Rett Syndrome is a rare genetic neurological disorder that severely affects the nervous system, leading to a deterioration of the muscles, body movement, and language. Ashley was the size of a child who could not talk and move independently. She entirely depended on her mother, Paula, and Grandmother, Glenna, for total around-the-clock care. Tragically, this beautiful girl also endured the most horrific acts of rape by her stepfather Brian Urban in 2022, which was caught on a nanny-cam video recording. Brian Urban has since been sentenced to serve five felony charges that will be served consecutively. If Ashley had been the age of a child, there would have been a minimum sentencing of 53 years for all five counts before he would be eligible for parole. However, because Ashley was a 30-year-old with severe disabilities, despite being the size of a child, under the current laws, Brian Urban could go before the parole board in only 13 years. Ashley could not talk, run away, or fight back! This needs to change! It is crucial to have laws in place to protect adults with disabilities.

We have made it our life’s mission to seek justice for Ashley, change the law to protect the vulnerable adult population, and prevent this from happening to someone else!

Donations made will pay off Ashley’s funeral expenses, buy a headstone, and continue on this journey to get Ashely’s law passed. We have a lot of work ahead of us to change the current laws, and with that comes added expenses, but the process has begun!
