My name is Paula, and over the past year my life has completely changed because of a severe and still undiagnosed skin condition.

What started as unusual skin symptoms quickly turned into something much more serious. My skin has developed painful lesions that require constant wound care, bandaging, and medical monitoring. The pain can be overwhelming at times, and even simple daily activities have become incredibly difficult.

Despite multiple doctor visits, tests, biopsies, and blood work, my medical team is still trying to determine the exact cause of what is happening to my body. I am currently being seen by specialists and dermatologists, and I am traveling for medical appointments while we continue searching for answers.

Recently I have undergone numerous biopsies and extensive blood testing as doctors investigate possible autoimmune and rare skin conditions. This journey has been physically exhausting and emotionally overwhelming, especially not knowing exactly what we are dealing with yet.

I am a mother, and my children are my biggest reason to keep fighting through the pain and uncertainty. I am doing everything I can to stay strong for them while continuing this difficult medical journey.

Unfortunately, the costs connected to my care are quickly adding up — including medical supplies for daily wound care, travel to specialist appointments, medications, medical tests that are not covered by OHIP, and time away from work while my health is unstable.

I never imagined I would be in a position where I would need to ask for help, but right now I truly do.
