Hello family, friends, and neighbors of Paul Nuhn. I first met my next-door neighbor when I was viewing the home that would later be my own. He was outside spray painting his banana trees neon colors, and I could tell we would be happy to live next to him. Since I first met Paul, he has been kind, caring, giving, and quick with a joke or a smile. He is the kind of neighbor who will help with a move, advise you about when to trim back your plants, and provide an ear to listen when needed.
Recently, Paul had been feeling tired and just not himself. On November 8th, he was admitted to Virginia Hospital Center for evaluation. Shortly after, he was notified that he had Acute Myeloid Leukemia, a blood cancer, that would require a prolonged hospitalization and chemotherapy.
His hospital stay has had its share of ups and downs. His treatment has been complicated by occasional asthma exacerbations and some heart-related issues. However, through it all, he remains positive and is working hard to get better. His wife, Sue, is able to be at his bedside daily. Along with support from their two kids, Brian and Tim, and Tim's wife, Yumeng, Paul has a great team to keep him motivated. As Paul fights cancer, his family is working hard to make sure they are able to get him home as soon as possible. That is where we come in.
Paul and Sue's spirits have been buoyed so much by the support they have received so far from family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers alike.
The reason I created this GoFundMe is to provide them with added support during this difficult time. Paul is currently unable to work due to his condition--he has been missing Merrifield dearly--and they are being faced with unexpected expenses. Any contributions will help them to have a thorough cleaning of their home, which is required before Paul can be discharged from the hospital, as well as contributing to medical expenses that come from a long hospitalization.
