Paul Ellis is a person who has given without measure for his entire life. As a doctor, teacher, and volunteer, Paul has spent years helping others—often until it hurt. Now, after a series of horrific accidents, Paul is in desperate need of basic life support. He has lost an eye, suffered a stroke that paralyzed most of his right side, and survived a motorcycle crash that broke many bones. Most recently, a head-on collision caused by an uninsured driver left him with severe brain injuries, spinal and nerve damage, balance problems, and Parkinson's-like symptoms.
Despite these overwhelming challenges, Paul remains positive and grateful for the blessings in his life. He is resourceful, stretching his Social Security income as far as possible, but it is not enough to cover his needs, especially the many therapies designed to help him regain the ability to lift his arms, speak clearly, and walk without shuffling. Paul dreams of returning to the medical field as a volunteer, but without therapy this will never happen. For now, his needs are basic—survival and a chance at recovery. Paul is my friend, and I have seen firsthand how much he values his independence. He has always refused direct help, but GoFundMe offers a way for the community to support him anonymously, making it easier for him to accept the help he needs. If you have ever benefited from St. Louis University Hospital, Washington University Medicine, St. Lukes Hospital, Logan College of Chiropractic, St. Louis College of Health Careers, Missouri College, St. Louis Community College, or Abbott Ambulance; if you have ever planted a tree, been taught by a volunteer, or received help from a local organization, it may have been Paul whose hands and heart reached out to you. Now, it's our turn to reach out to him. Please consider supporting Paul Ellis as he fights to regain his independence and continue his legacy of giving.
