The Monday after Easter this year, Paul’s life changed forever. He was diagnosed with acute heart failure, with an ejection fraction of just 11%, meaning his heart is pumping at only a fraction of what it should. On top of this, he has two aneurysms and also needs two valves replaced.

Because of his weak heart function, Paul cannot survive surgery to repair these aneurysms, nor can he survive the long wait for a transplant. His only chance is an LVAD, a left ventricular assist device, that will quite literally keep him alive. This surgery is like having two open-heart surgeries at once, and Paul will be in the hospital for at least a month, possibly longer, followed by cardiac rehab. He has already undergone three catheterizations and will need more both before and after the surgery to monitor his heart.

While Paul prepares for this critical surgery, his wife Linda has been by his side every step. But the cost has been devastating. After only five weeks at her new job, she was let go for taking just four and a half days off to care for Paul. She also faces her own health struggles, one of which requires regular infusions. On top of all this, she also cares for her 89 year old mother at home, who is currently doing what she can to keep them above water.

The financial strain is overwhelming. Their lives are filled with constant trips from Long Island to New York Presbyterian in Manhattan for Paul’s care, and the gas, tolls, and parking quickly add up. On top of that are the medical bills, prescriptions, and everyday expenses like rent, car payments, and groceries, which are now impossible to keep up with. During Paul’s long hospital stay, Linda will also need food and a place to shower and rest and reset while she remains close by. Paul goes into the hospital on September 30th, his surgery is set for October 1st. Please keep him in your prayers.

Paul and Linda’s lives have been completely turned upside down. They are fighting not just a life threatening medical battle, but also a crushing financial one. Your donation will help ease this burden so they can focus on what truly matters, Paul’s healing and their time together. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a real difference. And if you’re unable to give, please share their fundraiser to help spread the word.
