Support Paul access the outdoors and live a better life
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Paul and in 2018 I woke one morning with pins and needles in my toes. A week later and it was still there. I was also having issues with my balance, which also stayed with me.
A trip to my doctor's saw me being sent straight to hospital and I endured a 5 day stay filled with MRI scans and a lumbar puncture (spinal tap). I was sent home with a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis and my life changed.
Physically, things weren't too far from normal, apart from tingly toes and not being able to walk in a straight line. I was enjoying my fledgling photography business and life was good.
Stroll on 7 years and the MS has done it's damage. I now cannot walk further than 20m with the aid of a walker, and also rely heavily on a wheelchair when my spine has decided it has had enough of standing up. Fatigue, numbness in my fingers and the strength of a toddler are other delights MS has given me. My health has taken a beating and struggling to get out doesn't help.
A wheelchair has provided me with the ability to safely get around apart from one major obstacle.....leaving and entering my house. The doorways are very high and make it impossible when I'm in my chair and a risky manoeuvre when I'm on my feet.
Raised decking and a ramp is what I'm aiming for, which would enable me to leave on my wheelchair and finally enjoy the outdoors, get back into my love of photography and live a life outside my house. An up and over door on both the garage and car-port will hopefully also be replaced by something more suitable.
Any help with achieving my goal would be greatly appreciated.
update 10/4/25:
Thanks for all the support I've received so far, I'm extremely humbled by everyone that has helped.
I have Preston Care & Repair visiting tomorrow to discuss any adaptions that will need to take place!
Update: 24/04/25
I have just received a quote for a metal modular ramp....) lets just say there is a bit more fundraising to be done
