Working For The Cure
Hi, my name is Omar Flores and I’m here to tell you a little bit about my wife.
My wife’s name is Patricia De Lució (aka Paty). I met Paty in the summer of 2012. We were both in our mid-20s at the time, young and full of dreams. Our biggest dream was to one day have a family of our own with a lot of children roaming around.
As the years went by, Paty helped me develop a love for reading. She taught me the importance of having an education and growing not only intellectually but spiritually too. She played a huge role in me continuing my education and coming back to my Heavenly Father. She’s taught me to see the world with a wider lens.
Paty works as a hairdresser and is not only that but she’s also a wife, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a niece, and one of the best friends anyone could have.
She serves our Lord by working with the young women group in our church. She’s a great leader and teaches our young girls the importance of following the teachings of our Savior, self-love, respect, and the love for others.
Years have gone by full of happy times, sad times, and building many memories together. The only thing that never came was the many children we dreamed of. Didn’t matter how hard we tried, we just couldn’t seem to conceive and we’re not getting any younger. But we never lost hope.
A month after Paty’s 40th birthday on March 17th, one evening after having dinner, she began complaining about a pain in her lower left abdomen. This pain increased terribly within hours and she started her period that night. Needless to say, she had a terrible night.
At first, we thought her symptoms could have just been from severe colitis due to spicy food, but as the weeks went by with pain and non-stop bleeding, she decided to visit her OBGYN. All this started in April of 2025. During all this time, she kept having many diagnostic procedures done. It literally took doctors three months to diagnose her with Endometrial Cancer stage 1.
The oncologist, who has been great, explained this shouldn’t be a hard procedure as removing the uterus along with the tumor and possible post-treatment should be enough.
What the doctor doesn’t realize is that she is not only taking out a uterus, she is also taking our biggest dream of one day having children of our own with it. Unfortunately, we do not qualify for adoption so that will not be an option for us.
Paty will be going into surgery on August 25th. It won’t be until after the surgery that we’ll know more about the post-treatment. As for now, the options are either chemotherapy or oral. Of course, nobody wants to go through chemotherapy but only God knows what’s awaiting her.
We had been trying very hard to keep up with medical bills but they just got out of hand in no time. At this point, we’re pinching pennies. I work from home taking phone calls for a customer service company. I do other side jobs such as carpentry, I’m a musician and play paid gigs when time allows. I have a part-time job at a Mediterranean restaurant where I work as a cook. I also sell Texas-style BBQ plates when time allows. I even buy and sell anything I can get my hands on.
Even with all this, it’s still not enough to cover all medical expenses and the cost of living. This is why I’m here today asking y’all for help.
This is by far the hardest thing I’ve had to deal with in my life after my father’s passing when I was just a child. As my wife said: “I’m used to always being the one who helps. Therefore, I sometimes find it hard to ask for help.” I guess it is our turn to ask for help.
Thank y’all in advance.
