My name is Patty, I am 24 years old, and I was just diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). I have been dealing with unanswered health issues for the last few years, but the most recent issue that led me to this diagnosis was that I woke up in the middle of the night, finding it difficult to lift my right arm. I decided to get out of bed to see if I slept on my arm weird and found that I was limping on my right leg. I woke up my husband, and we went to the ER right away. After being at the ER for a while, the right side of my mouth started to droop, and my speech was slurred. They did MRIs and thought they figured out that I had a stroke. When I was transferred to a different hospital, they did more testing and were 90% sure that what I actually have is MS. I was then hospitalized for 5 days so they could do additional testing and give me steroids each day. I am now officially diagnosed with MS after going to a specialist.
What is Multiple Sclerosis? Multiple Sclerosis is a degenerative autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks the protective sheath that covers nerve fibers, known as myelin. This interrupts communication between the brain and the rest of the body. Eventually, the disease can cause permanent damage of the nerve fibers.
Symptoms of MS depend on the person, the location of damage in the nervous system and how bad the damage is to the nerve fibers. Some people lose the ability to walk on their own or move at all.
There's no cure for multiple sclerosis. However, there are treatments to help speed the recovery from attacks, modify the course of the disease and manage symptoms.
Currently, I still have very limited movement of my right arm and hand, I am still limping, and a few other symptoms. I am now left with many medical bills, and I am unable to work. I would use this money to cover my medical bills, cover lost wages, and other related medical expenses. I would appreciate any amount anyone is able to donate.
