Patty Clayton has been my dear friend for 35 years, and I am heartbroken to share that her middle son, Colten Brower, passed away unexpectedly on January 31st. This is every parent's worst nightmare, and as you can imagine, it is the hardest time in her families life. I have always admired Patty for raising her three boys as a single mother, making sure they always came first—whether it was sports, trips, or everyday moments. Now, we want to help make this time a little easier for her in any way we can, and this fundraiser is a start.
If you have lived or worked in Everson or Nooksack over the last couple of decades, you probably know Patty. She has been an active member of the Lacrosse and high school football communities at Meridian and Nooksack. She has owned a hair salon in Everson for years, and also drives a bus for the Nooksack School District. Patty has spent countless hours volunteering with the Lions Club, decorating the towns with flags, and donating her time to auctions and fundraisers. She is a wonderful friend to so many and never asks for anything in return. Patty has an incredibly close family, especially with her three boys. She has created cherished memories through camping, sports, family vacations, and everyday life.
Colten was many things to many people. He was a man of God, he was generous-and loved and lived that way. He wore his heart on his sleeve and gave effortlessly. He loved to keep people laughing! His infectious smile and humor is what I know anyone who met him will treasure. He loved his mother beyond measure and was loyal and protective of his family and friends. He was goofy and kind hearted, extremely athletic, and competitive. Loving him was easy and his loss has left a deep void in the lives of all who knew him. He was a wonderful son, brother and friend. I was able to watch him grow up into a really cool human. Having to use the past tense in this is breaking my heart.
In the wake of this tragedy, Patty is facing the overwhelming costs of saying goodbye to her beloved son. The funds raised will help cover the expenses for a memorial service for Colten, along with giving Patty a couple weeks of "breathing room" so she can grieve without having to work. These are not costs any parent should have to bear alone, and I want to do everything I can to support Patty during this unimaginable time. Any support you can give—whether through a donation or by sharing this fundraiser—will help Patty honor Colten's memory and give him the farewell he deserves. Your kindness and generosity will make a real difference for a grieving mother and her family. Thank you for keeping Patty, Colten, and their loved ones in your thoughts.
