Support Patti as She Stands by Larry's Side

- I'm Lisa Johnson. I live in upstate New York with my 12-year-old daughter, my partner (ok, boyfriend!), and our 2 little Pomeranians, Tony & Elvis. My older sister (by 1 1/2 years!) lives in a neighboring town, just a short drive away. Patricia "Patti" Wolfe's family has had a near-tragic end to her family's annual vacation in Maine. While they were expecting serenity & rejuvenation from the ocean's calming waves & spectacular views, that is not what my sister's family experienced this year. Her husband of 23 years, Larry, had an accident on 6/13. Thinking that he was just bruised, they left for Maine, a 4 1/2 hour drive. Larry's discomfort steadily increased & on 6/17, after 3 days, Larry knew something was wrong, very wrong & had Patti call for an ambulance. He was taken from the 1st ER to a 2nd larger hospital by ambulance. It was there he was diagnosed with a broken rib, punctured lung & internal bleeding. He also needed emergency surgery to remove large pools of blood in his abdomen. The Dr. told Patti he only had a 50/50 chance of surviving the surgery. After making it through surgery, they faced one complication after the other. He was sent to ICU on June 20th to monitor and actively treat a variety of serious medical conditions. Each day Patti would have fresh hope & have her hope trampled from yet another setback. His medical team was considering an invasive medical procedure to help him breathe, but again were concerned he wouldn't make it out of surgery. While all of this was transpiring, Patti was having to move her 19-year-old stepson & 9-year-old grandson out of their vacation rental at the end of the week & find new accommodations, which she was lucky to find for the 4th of July weekend. You see, Patti would not leave her husband there by himself. She has taken time off from work to stay with him. She was then fortunate enough to get a room at Gary's House, a house with incredibly reasonable rates for people who had a loved one in the nearby hospital.
- So as Patti told me she was "melting" her credit cards on meals, hotel rooms, expenses of driving the 20-30 minutes to the hospital several times a day & the hospital bills that were sure to follow, she continued to focus on helping Larry to continue to improve so she could get him back to New York state with her & the rest of their family. This was a over a month ago!
- We are fundraising to help cover these unexpected medical expenses and support Patti and Larry during this challenging time.
- Update: Larry continues to be hospitalized in Maine (since 6/17). My sister Patti hopes to get him back to nys soon!
