Help Pat Fahey’s Fight Against Cancer: Myxoid Liposarcoma

Donation protected
Pat Fahey, my incredible nephew, is courageously facing a tremendous battle in fighting a rare and aggressive cancer, Myxoid Liposarcoma Stage 4. Pat is 42 years old, he is resilient, funny, a loving husband, and a devoted stepfather of four, who has always brought humor and joy to all of us. Unfortunately, he is facing this terrible aggressive cancer and is just days out of having spinal surgery to remove a mass just found. He will be continuing radiation through his spinal recovery, moving onto chemotherapy when strong enough to treat the masses found in his lungs. He is currently in the ICU at Barnes St. Louis. Pat has been positive and so inspiring throughout. He has touched so many of us with his strength and optimism, and we know that with your help, he will continue to fight this battle and come out on the other side stronger than ever. Right now, he’s in the fight of his life, and as you can imagine, this is a challenging time for him and his family, and any support you could offer would mean the world to us.

Pat’s Story
In the words of Pat’s wife, Alex:

“On December 7th, 2023, Pat was involved in a car accident while visiting his late mother on her birthday. What began as pain near his knee and thigh was initially thought to be a result of varicose veins and the trauma from the accident. But as time passed, it became clear that something was very wrong. In April 2024, an ultrasound suggested a large hematoma, but the real shock came in August when a CT scan revealed something much more alarming. After consultations with specialists, on August 20th, Pat was diagnosed with Myxoid Liposarcoma. In that moment of disbelief, Pat, with his unshakable positivity, turned to me and asked, ‘You wanna go fishing?’ And so, we did."

Since then, Pat has shown unbelievable strength. He immediately began aggressive treatments and on December 17th, Pat was declared cancer-free after weeks of radiation, chemotherapy, and surgery to remove his tumor. His follow-up scans were clear, but soon after, Pat began experiencing back pain. When the pain worsened, a follow-up scan showed two new lung nodules, confirming that his liposarcoma had returned. He was scheduled for a harsh chemotherapy regimen known as the “Red Devil” because of it’s side effects, but shortly after, his back pain intensified, spreading to his thighs, leading to multiple ER visits with no clear answers.

Things took an urgent turn when Pat experienced numbness. After more ER visits with no resolution, Pat’s oncologist, along with his nurse, ordered a full workup at Barnes. On March 21st, Pat was admitted for further testing and further scans revealed a large mass on his spinal cord.

On March 25th, Pat was told he would need urgent surgery to remove the mass, with the risk of a 50/50 chance of walking again. The surgery was successful in removing some of the mass, but they unfortunately couldn’t remove it all, and while Pat’s leg function is intact, it is still very weak.

Pat now faces a long recovery, possibly inpatient rehab, along with immediate radiation and ongoing chemotherapy. He is no longer able to work, and we are uncertain of the outcome, but we remain hopeful and are praying for a full recovery.

Now just days out of spinal surgery and still in the ICU, Pat’s strength and optimism remain unmatched. His resilience, humor, and positivity continue to inspire everyone around him, and he’s ready to keep fighting with the support of loved ones like you.

The Fight Is Not Over
Pat still faces many more hurdles on the road to recovery, and the financial burden of medical bills, treatments, and lost wages from being unable to work is becoming overwhelming. We’re reaching out for your support so that Pat can focus on what matters most—his health and healing—without the added stress of mounting expenses.

Here’s how your generous donation will help:
* Medical bills for chemotherapy, radiation, surgeries, and ongoing treatments.
* Support for recovery including physical therapy and follow-up care.
* Daily living expenses as Pat continues to fight this battle and heal.

Any donation, no matter how small, will have a huge impact. If you’re unable to donate financially, we’d be incredibly grateful if you could share Pat’s story. Your thoughts, prayers, and encouragement are just as important, and we truly appreciate your support in every form.

We are so grateful for the love, generosity, and strength of our community. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping Pat continue his fight and for showing him that he is not alone on this journey.

With deep appreciation,
Pat’s Family
