But let’s be real: the current healthcare system isn’t exactly rolling out the red carpet for trans and non-binary folks. Thanks to today’s political climate, insurance companies are putting up more barriers than ever. Even when a policy technically “covers” gender-affirming care, there’s a mess of hoops, paperwork, denials, and months-long waits that can be incredibly draining and, honestly, dehumanizing. And some of the best surgeons often don’t accept insurance at all (because they know the system is broken, too).
