Addie Loves Her Daddy

Patrick McGehee is the husband of my niece, Ashley, and the father of their daughter Addie. This is Addie’s message:

Hello, I am Addie. Age 14 months. My daddy is a dedicated music teacher at Murphy Junior High School. He is also a talented artist. He is such a fun daddy and I love him SO much!!

On Saturday, Sept 14, Patrick suffered a grand Mal seizure. This was the first and only clue that something was terribly wrong. On Thursday, Sept 19, he had an 8 hour brain surgery to remove a 6x6 cm tumor from his right frontal lobe. We won’t know until sometime next week if the tumor is benign or malignant. Follow-up brain scans show that 99% of the tumor was removed. The team of specialists will need to wait until after the pathology report is back to determine his post-op treatment plan.

Patrick was told to expect to be off work for a minimum of 3 months to allow his brain to appropriately heal. In the meantime, he will have a $4,000 insurance deductible to pay and loss of income while recovering at home. Short-term disability will only pay a certain percentage of his income. It’s estimated he will need $14,000 to cover his deductible and lost wages.
