Patrick Burton’s world changed forever on the night of February 1, 2026. After being involved in a car accident, Patrick’s mother, Maureen, drove over an hour to make sure he was safe and bring him home. Tragically, Maureen herself was in a solo vehicle accident that claimed her life. In a single night, Patrick lost his mother, his car, and the apartment they shared as roommates. The shock and grief have been overwhelming, and Patrick is now facing the daunting task of rebuilding his life without the person who meant the most to him.

Patrick was given a used car to help him get around, but it soon broke down, leaving him without reliable transportation. He is temporarily establishing himself with an uncle in Grass Valley while he seeks employment and builds up enough money to move to Colorado to be near his father, Bill. He may also need professional support to cope with the trauma of losing his mother so suddenly. The challenges ahead are immense, but Patrick is determined to find a way forward.
