My name is Renee Lett and I have started a GoFundMe to help a co-worker who was a victim of a Zelle scam for an item he was selling on Marketplace. Patrick lost $1,000 that is not covered by the bank fraud coverage because they state “he willingly gave them the money” due to the format of the scam.

Patrick Barrett is the most innocent, sweet, hardworking young men I have had the pleasure to work with. He works hard and lights up customers days when they see him. He cannot afford this loss, nor did see what was occurring until it was too late due to the level of sophistication the scammers used.

Why am I wanting to help him recoup this loss? Because he was so proactive by researching the best way to sell the computer items, ask advice from many of us who have sold items before, and took all precautions to make sure he did it safely as he never sold anything on Marketplace before. Patrick did everything correct but the scammers were too good. He did not deserve this loss. On top of working at a local restaurant, he is building his online content for speed running in games to further share his passions.
