Support Pat Reyle's Road to Recovery

On Thursday, June 19th, the day after traveling from his home in Valley Falls, Kansas to his daughter's home in Rochester, Minnesota, Pat Reyle was spending time with the entire immediate family (his wife Brenda, his youngest daughter Jessica, her wife Haley, his granddaughter Stevie Rae, his daughter Kayla (me), and her partner Liz) before preparing to attend a funeral for his wife's father on Saturday, June 21st, my dad took a fall on the street outside of my home during a foot race. This fall caused a broken clavicle, multiple broken ribs, a hairline fracture in his skull, and a subdermal hematoma. Moments after the fall, the ambulance was called and proceeded to take him to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He was rushed into surgery to remove a peice of his skull to release the swelling and blood that accumulated on his brain due to a vein being severed when he hit his head hard on the asphalt. The Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is on the left side of his brain which is responsible for many things including speech and language, therefore directly affecting his ability to speak.

After the emergency craniotomy, my dad was in the neurological ICU for just over 2 weeks (on a ventilator for 9 days), in a general hospital room for 6 days, and is now at the inpatient rehabilitation center (Generose) until his tentative release of July 29th. After his release from inpatient rehabilitation, my dad will have to continue physical, occupational, and speech therapies for quite some time and need 24-hour care until he is able to do things on his own again. The Mayo Clinic has done a wonderful job of keeping my dad alive and providing top-of-the-line physical, occupational, and speech therapies and with his wife beside him every step of the way he is progressing well.

During this scary adventure neither of my parents are working, bills are piling up quickly, and medical bills are starting to come in. My parents are hardworking people but live paycheck to paycheck to cover day-to-day living expenses. If you find it in your heart to help a hardworking couple in their time of need, it would be greatly appreciated. If monetary help is not in the cards for you, please at least spread the word as every little bit helps.

With peace and love,

The Reyle Family
