Helping Pastor Scott Hume Fight Cascading Health Crises (Skin Cancer, Heart Disease, Anemia)
Our family is reaching out to our community, friends, and loved ones for support during an overwhelming medical and financial crisis affecting my father, Pastor Scott Hume.
In January 2025, my dad, Scott, began the year battling skin cancer. He underwent several surgical trips to have basal cell carcinoma removed from his back. We all thought that challenging start to the year was the worst of it.
But the real challenge began in July 2025.
Dad started experiencing severe fatigue, dizzy spells, a "heavy" feeling in his chest, sharp pains, shortness of breath, and extremely high blood pressure. Several ER visits later, these symptoms were initially diagnosed as severe iron anemia. What followed was a grueling series of head-to-toe tests, involving gastrointestinal specialists and hematologists, trying to find the source of the anemia.
The findings were far more extreme than anyone anticipated: an enlarged heart and a severe aortic aneurysm—a balloon-like bulge in the body's main artery that can be life-threatening if it dissects or ruptures. Despite extensive testing, we still haven't found the cause of the anemia.
We are now preparing for what may be complex heart surgery in 2026. Our next major hurdle is a consultation with a cardiologist/heart specialist in February 2026. In the meantime, he continues to require regular iron infusions to manage the severe anemia, adding to the ongoing medical burden.
For those who know my father, you know his heart for service. As an ordained pastor, he has always given freely of his time, his energy, and his spirit, volunteering for several ministries in our community, but he is also a proud Navy veteran who served our country. He’s the first person to lend a hand, offer a prayer, or step up when someone needs help. Now, he's the one who needs our help.
This journey hasn't just taken a toll on my dad’s health; it has decimated his and my stepmom financially. Due to his inability to work consistently and the overwhelming strain of managing multiple specialist appointments and treatments, they lost his employer-paid medical coverage. The situation has become so severe that my Dad is now having to go on disability insurance, fundamentally changing our family's financial future. To make ends meet and keep up with daily expenses and mounting medical bills, my stepmother has also had to take on a second job.
The combination of medical bills from the cancer surgeries and the ongoing diagnostic tests for his heart condition has created a heavy and terrifying debt.
We are starting this GoFundMe to help cover:
Existing Medical Debt: The accumulated bills from 2025 specialist visits, tests, and surgeries.
Upcoming Surgery Costs: Covering deductibles and co-pays for the vital heart surgery planned for 2026.
Medical Travel and Logistics: Costs associated with traveling to the necessary surgical facilities.
Loss of Income/Bridge Funding: Helping bridge the gap as they transition to disability income and manage reduced work hours during his recovery time.
My dad is a fighter, but he can't do this alone, and neither can we.
Your contribution, no matter the size, will offer my family a lifeline and allow my dad to focus purely on his recovery and health, rather than the crushing weight of financial stress. We appreciate every share, prayer, and donation.
Thank you for being part of my father's support system. If you are unable to donate at this time, please know that sharing this campaign with your networks is an incredible act of kindness that helps us reach our goal.
Prayer has been our #1 during this time as always and we hear your prayers!
With love and gratitude,
Thank you,
The Hume Family
