Many of you know my husband, John. He has been known by many titles over the years – husband, father, grandpa, pastor, friend, and counselor. For nearly 50 years he has been a faithful pastor and friend to everyone he meets. We’ve been blessed with over 55 years of marriage, and I’ve been fortunate to witness his steady faith, humility, and joy through every season of life.

John has been diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney failure and congestive heart failure. Most days he is now confined to his chair, and at night he sleeps sitting up because lying flat is too hard on his heart. As many of you know, he has never been one to complain and is an encourager by nature. Even now, he continues to keep his cheerful spirit and lifts others up, refusing to let this circumstance steal his joy.

Last month he was admitted to the Heart Hospital when the swelling in his legs became severe. The doctors were able to help, but it took a heavy toll on his already fragile kidneys. His doctors have confirmed that both his heart and kidneys are failing, and the swelling, shortness of breath, and fatigue have made the activities he enjoys most—attending church, tending the garden, walking our dog, or visiting family—no longer possible.

There is, however, an alternative treatment that may help reverse kidney damage. We’ve been connected with a functional nephrologist in Houston who takes a proactive approach to restoring kidney function and strengthening the heart, with remarkable results even in stage 4 patients. The treatment uses regenerative therapies to help restore kidney function, strengthen his heart, and improve his quality of life. Unfortunately, it isn’t covered by insurance, and the cost is overwhelming.

We are raising funds to help cover the initial requirements, tests, and treatments so John can begin this program and regain his quality of life. We are deeply grateful for the love and support our family has received through the years and humbly ask for your prayers as we take these next steps. We know the Lord is in control and that He is the Great Physician. All healing comes from Him, and we trust He will walk with us through these uncertain days.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Barbara Eastman
