Prostate Cancer is a pain in my rear end… and my wallet!

Hello friends and family,

I have prostate cancer. That still sounds strange to me as I write this. First, I want to thank all of you who have called and texted to encourage me. I say words of encouragement are everything… and they are, but many ask how else they can support me. As a pastor, chaplain, and friend, I have always been the one to offer support to those facing cancer. Now, it looks like it is my turn to ask others to support me. I am not used to asking for help, but as a friend of mine once said, “why would you deny others the opportunity to support you and steal that blessing from them?”

I have insurance; however, even with coverage, the out of pocket costs for doctor co-pays and medication, gas money to and from the clinic, and other expenses related to treatment will be steep. I estimate that my total bills after insurance will be $8,000. I am truly blessed and grateful for any support. Radiation treatments begin on July 29th, and I will keep everyone informed on my progress. If any funds gifted to me remain after treatment, I will pass it forward to the Pasco County Fire Rescue Benevolence fund to help support our firefighters when they become sick or injured.
