Our family is asking for continued prayers, positive thoughts, and support for my nephew, Parker Chaney.
In the early hours of 5/12/26, Parker was involved in a very serious car accident. He was initially transported to Marshfield Children’s Hospital from Antigo and later transferred to Milwaukee Children’s Hospital, where he is now receiving care from an incredible team of specialists.
Parker suffered significant internal injuries, including broken ribs, bruised lungs, lacerations to his liver and spleen, and a possible heart injury that required close monitoring. He received multiple blood transfusions due to internal bleeding. Despite everything, the trauma team has shared that Parker is a strong, healthy, and active young man—qualities that are already helping him fight and heal.
In the early hours of 5/13, Parker underwent a very intense and high-risk surgery that lasted approximately 8 hours to control internal bleeding. Following surgery, he returned to the Cardiac ICU on ECMO (a heart-lung bypass machine) and intubated, but stable.
He later required a second procedure on 5/14 to address continued bleeding, which was expected due to the nature of his injuries and the need for blood thinners while on ECMO. We are incredibly grateful to share that Parker is now off ECMO and doing well.
He is scheduled for a third procedure on Friday, 5/15 to close his chest and abdomen and begin the next phase of his recovery journey.
Even through all of this, Parker continues to show his strength—he has already been trying to breathe over the ventilator, and the ICU team has noted his determination and resilience, which reflects exactly who he is.
His parents, Amber and Michael, have four children and will be traveling back and forth while missing work to be by Parker’s side. If you feel called to help, support for medical expenses, travel, gas, and meals would mean so much and allow them to focus fully on Parker’s healing.
Parker is supposed to graduate high school next week, making this time even more emotional for his family. To know Parker is to love him. He is the most kind, humble, genuine, loving kid and athlete. We believe in Parker’s strength and are holding onto hope as he continues to fight. Thank you for surrounding him and his family with love, prayers, and support during this incredibly difficult time!
