Help Paraclimber Sunny Yang Represent Team USA
Please help support paraclimber and Team USA athlete Sunny Yang as he strives to compete in national and international climbing competitions—representing the United States on the world stage.
Despite wearing the Team USA uniform, Sunny receives no financial support from the U.S. climbing federation to cover travel, lodging, or competition costs. Recently, his VA benefits were reduced, forcing him to withdraw from two upcoming international competitions.
Sunny is a decorated athlete, earning Gold at the 2021 U.S. National Paraclimbing Championships and Silver at the 2022 Paraclimbing World Cup. He’s aiming to continue competing for Team USA and has his sights set on the 2028 Paralympics in Los Angeles. But without financial support, Sunny simply can’t afford to stay in the game.
All donations will go directly toward Sunny’s travel and competition expenses.
Who is Sunny Yang?
Sunny is a beloved figure in the Kentucky climbing community and an inspiring U.S. Army veteran who served in Afghanistan. In 2015, while out for a training run, Sunny was hit by a vehicle. Doctors told him he would never walk again.
But Sunny refused to accept that future. Through relentless grit and determination, he not only taught himself to walk again—he returned to the sport he loved, this time as a paraclimber. In 2019, Sunny officially joined Team USA.
A Story of Resilience and Hope
Sunny’s journey has touched many lives. He’s been featured in podcasts, at events like Rocktoberfest, and has authored a book about his experience. A powerful documentary about his life, titled “Crux,” won Best Short Film at the Lookout Wild Film Festival.
