Help Paola Conquer Severe Neuromuscular Scoliosis

- My name is Rachel and I am the mother of a beautiful, courageous young girl named Paola Jimenez Gordon. She was diagnosed with Severe Scoliosis. She struggles every day to do simple things her siblings can do easily, and it affects her emotionally to the point of tears. It has been very hard for Paola emotionally. Since her diagnosis, she has begun to feel negatively and experiences deep sadness about her body image and inability to do simple things. She has pain and discomfort every day. She doesn't want to go out in public. There is even concern for her cognitive function. The scoliosis is also causing her abdominal pain. She dreads the doctor's appointments mostly because even at her young age, she can tell they don't truly care and basically aren't doing anything. She has been a victim of an outdated protocol of watch and wait. Her current doctors are apathetic at best, and I know there is better care available. She is a sweet young girl who deserves better. She loves to draw and snuggle her cats, and her biggest dream at this point is a straight spine. Under the care our Medi-Cal insurance provides, Paola's spine will get progressively worse until her spine is so contorted that her scoliosis will affect the placement and function of her organs so badly that surgery will be unavoidable. That means she will have to undergo a brutal surgery and have rods and screws placed along the full length of her spine. Recently, Paola grew out of her brace, and her current doctors took 3 months to get her a new one, causing her scoliosis curvature to worsen, which is unacceptable. There is better care available but my insurance will not cover it.
- Paola needs your help to see her dream come true... a straight spine! Or at least considerably straighter than it is now. She is a 10 year old girl who just wants to be healthy and pain free.
