Support Paola's Fight Against Genetic Liver Failure

Donation protected
I am Paola’s cousin, Anna, and am reaching out to friends and family to try and raise money to support Paola and her husband Juan as they do everything they possibly can to save Paola.

Paola was born in Bolivia with a genetic mutation that impacts her liver very negatively. She was adopted by by my Aunt Lois when she was 20 months old and over time that genetic mutation has caused Intrahepatic Cholestasis. She has done some amazing things in life despite struggling with these issues including traveling, getting her masters degree, and being an incredible daughter, friend, sister, and wife. She’s so wildly kind and thoughtful, and just one of those people you can’t help but love.

For the past several years Paola has been in and out of the hospital trying all types of interventions (changing her diet, lifestyle, medications, anything recommended to her by her medical team) to keep her body healthy but unfortunately due to this genetic mutation well beyond Paola’s control, her liver is now failing. Her husband Juan has decided to donate part of his liver and they are both doing everything they can to make this happen as quickly as possible! Currently the surgery is scheduled for August, but so many procedures and surgeries need to happen before then.

Paola has the best insurance she can get through her work and is STILL working even after hospital stays and appointments or when she's feeling miserable. Juan has also been working tirelessly to try and support them, but the medical bills are astronomical for the care and treatment Paola has needed and will need. Neither of them will be able to work for several months while recovering, and the estimate for their portion of the liver transplant surgery is $30,000 which is on top of what they already owe due to Paola’s many, many hospital stays. I would love to make sure they don’t have to worry about crushing medical debt and day to day life during that time. They have spent so many years in worry, and now that an answer if finally in sight, they deserve some time to breathe.

If you are able to donate any little bit will help and would be so appreciated! There are other ways to support if financial support isn't doable right now including sending love, vibes, prayers or whatever you use, or sharing this fundraiser as much as possible would go a long way!

From all of those who love Paola and Juan, thank you.
