My brother,  Andrew Margon, is a veteran NYC public school teacher. His classes on food systems & healthy eating have been deeply interrupted by the pandemic, as his 100 students no longer have access to a communal location to do this important work.  

A few years ago, Andrew developed these classes to help NYC kids better understand how they can intersect with nutrition, culture, environment, and the natural world. The classes have been an incredible interdisciplinary opportunity for kids to learn together about the politics of nutrition and access, and about making good choices -- including ones that are immediately relevant to their health and livelihoods.  

As teachers across the country contort themselves in different ways to sustain virtual connections and provide a meaningful education, Andrew is trying to create a direct food-to-home pipeline that will ensure food delivery, once a week, for his students.

If we can help make this happen, not only will the kids have access to the necessary supplies to participate in lessons, but we can help reduce food insecurity within the school community. Many of his students come from low-income and immigrant families - precisely the communities most affected by the twin crises of global pandemic & economic downturn.
