I started working at Palm Valley Animal Society three months after I moved to Texas. One of the biggest culture shock was seeing the amount of stray dogs roaming the streets. While we were driving we saw a dead dog in the middle of the highway. Back when I was living in NYC, I thought that kill shelters were terrible but now I see otherwise. PVAS accepts stray, sick, and injured animals from municipalities and counties who contract our services regardless of age, or breed, making them the largest intake facility in Hidalgo County. With over 600 dogs at their facility; more dogs are coming in then being adopted out. Ideally, dogs should be in the shelter for two weeks max but some of the dogs here have stayed for over 200 days! When quality of life is low, euthanasia must be assessed. The work can be hard but they make sure to give each and every dog the chance to find their forever homes; which is what all pets deserve.
My best friend, Han Solo is turning 7 on January 13th and instead of toys and treats which he has enough already. He would like to help raise money for dogs in need. Please consider supporting our gofundme. Thank you!
