Support Paislee’s Autistic, Safety, and Communication Needs

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Derek. I am a single, full-time father of Paislee, and her twin brother, Hunter. Paislee is a bright, loving 8-year-old with a dual diagnosis of Down syndrome and Level 3 autism.

Paislee faces significant daily challenges that affect every part of her life. She is mostly non-verbal, unable to communicate her needs, feelings, or pain. Because she has never developed a safe swallow, she receives all of her nutrition through a G-tube. She cannot tell me if something hurts, if she is anxious, or if she needs help — and this creates a tremendous amount of frustration for her.

❤️ Why We Are Asking for Help

Over the past year, Paislee’s behaviors have escalated in ways that are dangerous for her and those around her. She hits herself in the head repeatedly, throws objects impulsively, pinches and hits others, and has meltdowns that can last long periods. These behaviors worsened dramatically when the school year started, to the point that the school threatened truancy despite her medical and developmental needs.

For her safety and well-being, I made the difficult decision to withdraw her from school and homeschool her while increasing her ABA therapy — the one service where she has been making progress.

️ What Paislee Needs

Although I do everything I can to meet her needs, the cost of specialized safety equipment, communication tools, and home education materials is overwhelming. Insurance has denied coverage for several critical items, including her AAC (communication device), which she desperately needs to express even basic needs.

Funds raised will go toward:

AAC communication device (insurance denied) estimated cost around $1,500.

If we are able to raise enough donations, the next on the list would go towards a
Cubby safety bed (~$14,000) to prevent climbing, falls, and nighttime wandering

Homeschool curriculum and educational supplies to support her learning at home

Sensory tools that reduce self-harm, anxiety, and aggressive behaviors

Adaptive equipment and medical supplies not fully covered

Home safety modifications

Basic necessities during times when Paislee’s care limits my ability to work full hours

Social outings and community activities to help build her communication, sensory tolerance, and quality of life

Paislee currently sleeps in a crib with a canopy enclosure because she can climb out, making nighttime dangerous. She is the size of a 4-year-old, but she is strong and quick. Safety equipment and communication supports aren’t optional — they are essential.

Our Goal

My only goal is to give Paislee the safest, happiest, and most supported life possible. She is a sweet, affectionate little girl who deserves the tools to communicate, the equipment to keep her safe, and a home environment that supports her unique needs.

Any amount — even small contributions — helps us move closer to providing what Paislee needs. If you cannot donate, sharing the fundraiser is just as meaningful.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for supporting our family. Your kindness truly makes a difference.

With gratitude,
Derek & Paislee
