Hi everyone,

On April 11th, I attended a protest where a confrontation occurred that escalated quickly and resulted in both physical injury and ongoing trauma.

During the event, an individual present was interviewing attendees about ICE. During that interaction, a statement was made about rape in ICE detention centers, and the individual laughed at it and dismissed it, which I experienced as deeply triggering, as I am a sexual assault survivor. This led to emotional distress and a confrontation between the individual and me, as well as others present. The situation escalated, and at one point, I experienced physical contact and believed I was being assaulted, including being struck multiple times. In response, I acted in what I believed was self-defense in the moment. The individual was later escorted away from the area, and medics on site assessed me for visible swelling and provided immediate care for a headache and injury to my face.

Approximately minutes later, law enforcement arrived and stated they were there to “talk.” During this interaction, I was physically grabbed by deputies, and when protesters asked whether I was under arrest and requested clarification of my rights, I did not receive clear answers while the situation escalated.

While I was being restrained, I was placed in a choke hold from behind, which resulted in neck pain and injury. My boyfriend, who was present with me throughout the situation, attempted to intervene to protect me and was also physically involved in the encounter. The situation escalated further, including the use of force that resulted in both of us being taken to the ground and having deputies putting their knees on my neck and our backs. During this, he was arrested, and I was later transported for medical evaluation.

Following the incident, I received medical care at the ER for head, neck, and knee injuries, as well as symptoms consistent with physical trauma.

Afterward, I became aware that my personal information, as well as information about my family, had been shared online without my consent. Since then, I have been experiencing ongoing harassment, including threatening messages, repeated phone calls, and explicit threats of violence and sexual harm. This has created a continuing safety concern for my family and me.

As a result of everything that has happened, I am now dealing with:

Physical injuries (neck, head, and knee trauma)

Emotional and psychological trauma

Ongoing harassment and safety concerns

Financial strain from medical care and recovery

Need for legal consultation and support

I am currently seeking help to cover:

Medical expenses and follow-up care

Therapy and mental health support

Legal consultation regarding the incident and ongoing harassment

Basic stability while I recover physically and emotionally

I never expected to be in a situation like this ever, and I would hope no one experiences this. It has been extremely difficult to process everything that happened that day. I am sharing this in hopes of getting support as I try to recover, stay safe, and take the appropriate next steps.
