I honestly cannot believe I am writing these words, or that this is even happening. Our sweet baby boy, Pacino, needed emergency surgery today. Last night, he started to act a little off, but we thought maybe he just needed some rest. He climbed into bed and slept with us all night. Early this morning, I got up to walk him only to find out that he couldn’t use his hind legs. This was so sudden and totally out of the blue. It was so scary for him and us. We rushed him to the veterinary ER. Luckily, his blood work came back normal, but unfortunately, this meant there was a bigger issue going on. The next step was to take him to a veterinary neurologist. When we arrived, he was evaluated, and we found out he is paralyzed. The word “paralyzed” shocked our systems. He was then taken for an MRI, and we had to leave him and go home. We got a call from the vet with the results a few hours later. He was diagnosed with herniated discs. Fortunately, this was the best-case scenario since there are treatment options. He was immediately rushed into surgery. We received another call after a few hours had passed that he made it through surgery and is doing well. He will be resting tonight and will be given pain meds. We’re not sure how long he will have to stay in the hospital, but it can be up to 5 days. At this point, we wait to see if he has any improvement. This time is very uncertain and it will be a long road to recovery for Cino. However, we are optimistic that he will regain function in his hind legs and be back to the crazy, loving boy we all love in no time! I would never even think to set up this page if it weren’t so important. Doing everything in our power to make sure Cino has the best treatment and outcomes was a no-brainer. Unfortunately, this whole experience was very costly. Between the evaluations, lab work, imaging, surgery, and recovery, the total came to about $13,000. We are not expecting to reach that goal and know times are so tough right now, but any little bit of support would help greatly and would mean the world to us. Thank you so much for caring about our strong boy!!!
