The Jewish Community of Ozone Park, a haimish Orthodox shul located in Ozone Park Queens, was founded in 1933. It flourished for many years, supported by a vibrant congregation of 300 members.
Due to changing demographics and time, our membership has dwindled while the cost of maintaining the building has risen. Though the odds are against us, we survive.
On the High Holidays, we see many otherwise unaffiliated people attend services. All are welcomed with open arms. Unfortunately, they do not wish to engage with us beyond attending holiday services annually.
Our congregation is less than one tenth the size it used to be when it was founded 91 years ago, and members we lose are not being replaced. The majority of us are seniors with limited resources.
Our insurance has just increased from $22,000 to $30,000. The ability of our tiny congregation to bridge this $8,000 gap is daunting.
Please help us raise $8,000 so that we can keep the doors open to this beautiful and special outpost of Judaism in southern Queens. We welcome donations of any amount. Great opportunity to do a MEGA MITZVAH!
