Help Owen Thrive!
My name is Joey Baker, I am really close friends with Owen's parents, Seth and Hannah Triplett. I am helping raising funds to help Owen Thrive as he was diagnosed with TUBB2A.
Owens Story:
Within 2 months of the Triplett family moving to another state, away from their family. Owen, their 3 year old son was recommended to do some evaluations to look into some of the symptoms he was having. What they thought might just be some delays, turned into being much more. The last year and a half Owen and his family have been to over 200 appts between evaluations, multiple specialists, extensive testing, therapies and care planning. Terms like "Rare" and "complex" were commonly being used when referring to Owen and his case. His rare genetic condition has less than a dozen cases reported, which in terms means it is very minimally understood. There is a 90% chance of epilepsy which Owen has had abnormal EEG and potential absence seizures that is being closely monitored. The Genetic mutation has caused Owens brain to not fully develop and the MRI revealed a half page of malformations in his brain which then cerebral palsy was added to his list. Between these two conditions it creates some challenges for Owen. Since there is no cure for the things, Seth and Hannah have been told Owen will need a lifetime of therapies. Owen will need to have several different therapies to prevent Owen from regressing. The main things Owen will really need help with is his speech therapy, as of right now he only knows about 8 words. Physical therapy/DMI programs will be needed due to having low muscle tone and balance/coordination issues. As he continues to have constant falls, sensory regulations and fine motor challenges, he will to work through with occupational therapy help. Owen will also need vision therapy for his left eye that shows signs of partial vision loss as well as depth perception issues. Owen will also benefit from functional neurology therapies and what ever other things that may pop up that could help Owen thrive through his journey. Owen does not have much impulse control or risk assessment and also a extremely high pain tolerance, which makes it to where he cannot be unsupervised at anytime. The family is going to need to get Owen some extra resources and items to help make their household safe for Owen.
If Owen could be summed up into one word, it would be JOY! He is such a joyful boy who loves people, the outdoors and going on adventures with his family. Owen works so hard in all his therapies and perseveres even when things don't come easy to him. Seth and Hannah are so proud of Owen and have made the decision to move back home for more family support.
