Support for Mallory after Owen’s passing

As of October 2024, this GoFundMe has been changed to support Mallory after Owen’s passing.

Owen had been laid off in March, and financial responsibility was split between his unemployment and Mallory’s paycheck. However, since July, Mallory’s schedule had been inconsistent due to Owen’s illness. Funds already raised have been allocated to bill, but the current breakdown of needs are:

Owen’s decline was very sudden. His diagnosis came early August, with plans to start treatment after Labor Day. From there we struggled with blood pressure and weakness, a detour to an assisted living facility for physical therapy, 4 paracentisis procedures, multiple calls to the Mesa fire department before we were finally able to have his port placed at the end of September.

The morning of September 24, Owen was experiencing strength issues and almost fell leaving the house. We got him to the cancer center and after reviewing his labs, his oncologist informed us he needed to be admitted. They did an aggressive round of inpatient chemotherapy, and Friday morning, Owen’s symptoms started to increase. He became confused, and sometimes paranoid. Unfortunately, his aunt passed Saturday morning of the same cancer.

In his last days, Owen was surrounded by love. Many of his friends came to see him or left him messages that were read to him. He even managed to talk with a nurse about his passion for board games, even if he told here Catan was his favorite game.

On Friday October 4, Owen and Mallory were wed via virtual ceremony in the hospital chapel, surrounded by friends and staff members. He was then taken to nearby hospice, his mother Doris accompanying him. A few hours later: he passed.
