Rebuild & Rise: Over River Relief Fund
My name is Michelle Henderson-Walker from Kingstion, Jamaica and I’m creating this fundraiser to support families in Over River, St. James, who have been severely affected by Hurricane Melissa.
My own family lost the roofs off both of our homes, and all the furniture and belongings inside were soaked and damaged beyond repair. Sadly, this is not just our story — it’s the story of many families in our community who are now struggling to recover.
Currently, Over River is marooned. The main bridge connecting the community to Montego Bay has been completely destroyed, and the alternate route is impassable. Residents are cut off, with limited access to food, clean water, and communication. Cell service is unreliable, and relief has been slow to reach those in need.
Through this GoFundMe, I’m seeking donations to help provide essential supplies such as:
Tin food and drinking water
Flashlights and batteries
Power banks
Tarpaulins for temporary shelter
Other basic necessities for survival and recovery
While my family’s loss is personal, my goal is to help the wider Over River community and other families across western Jamaica who are enduring the same devastation.
I grew up in Over River, and though I now live and teach in Kingston, my heart remains deeply rooted in this community. I’ve seen firsthand the resilience and kindness of our people — and I believe that together, with your help, we can help them rise again.
Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference. Your kindness will bring hope, relief, and comfort to those who have lost so much.
Thank you for your generosity and prayers as we work to rebuild and rise — one act of kindness at a time.
