Unexpected Tariffs Are Delaying Our Dream Gym — Help Us Finish It

Hi, I’m Kim — founder of PWRGRLS Training, mom of two, immigrant, personal trainer, and small business owner here in Los Angeles.

Fitness changed my life — not just physically, but mentally. It taught me discipline, confidence, and the power of believing in yourself when no one else does. I created PWRGRLS to give that same feeling to other women — a safe space to get strong, lift heavy, feel powerful, and show up for themselves.

Earlier this year, I took the biggest leap of faith of my life. I signed the lease for my dream gym — a space I worked and saved for over years. I secured a loan, invested every dollar I had, and began building out a beautiful private women’s-only gym in Sherman Oaks. I custom-designed every detail — including our iconic pink equipment — ordered from overseas in February, trusting that it would all come together.

But just a few days before my equipment was ready to ship from China, new tariffs were announced — raising the import tax on fitness equipment to 145%. Shipping companies suddenly backed out. No one would take my order.

After weeks of stress, uncertainty, and searching — we finally found a freight company willing to ship it... but now the shipping cost is $16,000 — more than triple what I had already paid and budgeted for.

As someone who has always prided herself on working hard, figuring things out, and not asking for help — this is not easy for me. But I am humbly asking for your support.

Every dollar raised will go directly toward covering this unexpected shipping cost, getting our equipment here, and opening the doors to PWRGRLS this summer.

I need to start paying this rent in June. I have credit cards and loans I need to start paying back. I’ve poured everything I have into this dream — and I believe with all my heart that this space is going to change lives.
