Support our Ukranian Guest and their 3 year old.

Please help; Lisa and I have taken in Ukrainian guests as part of the Homes for Ukraine scheme. Our guests are Mila, 35, and her 3-year-old son Alex. They were evacuated from the area where they lived early in the conflict, and Mila lost her job. Since then, they have been living on Mila’s savings, moving around Ukraine, and staying with family and friends. When that was not possible, they slept in bomb shelters.

Mila and Alex arrived at Welbeck two weeks ago. We met them and their two suitcases at Leeds Bradford Airport after they had spent 48 hours traveling to Warsaw to catch the plane. They are both brilliant guests and anxious to move forward with their lives, despite having left family, friends and everything they know back in Ukraine. But they need further help.

It’s a desperate situation, they have no winter clothes or shoes and no savings left. Consequently, we are raising funds to send Alex to the local nursery and to enable Mila to convert her financial skills (she has a degree in Finance and banking) to be relevant to the UK job market. Unfortunately, UK childcare is notoriously expensive, and although the nursery is offering us a generous discount, the monthly cost will still be around £450. Mila will receive financial support in the next six weeks, but it will not cover the costs of a 3-day-a-week nursery place.

Mila is an educated woman with a small child who has been on the move for six months and is now desperate to have some stability for her young son. If you or anyone you know may be able to help with funds for Alex’s nursery fees, support Mila’s training and kit them out for the English weather, please help.

We are sure that with this short-term support for six months, Alex and Mila will be able to settle in a home of their own and move on with their lives. They are very anxious not to be a burden but have arrived with the bare necessities and need help to equip themselves for a British winter
