On August 23, 2019, Diane Treiber, born and raised in Southern Maryland, underwent an 18 hour surgery to remove a malignant tumor lodged in her right maxillary sinus. She was diagnosed with Cancer for a third time in July 2019; Breast Cancer in 2010 and another bout of Sinus Cancer in 2014.
The tumor removal required a team of surgeons that included; a neurosurgeon, an ophthalmologist, an ENT, and a reconstructive surgeon. Sadly, Diane lost her right eye, part of her soft palate and is presently breathing on a ventilator. She will need rehabilitation to learn to breathe, swallow and speak again. Diane has a long road to recovery ahead of her starting in the hospital and continuing at a rehabilitation facility which will increase the financial burden of her expenses.
Diane will be on a leave of absence from her job as a dental assistant of 37 years for a minimum of 3 months. As a single mother of her daughter, Emily, away at college, she will have no source of income to cover her medical and living expenses. With all she has endured, Diane has showed incredible strength of spirit. She has managed to keep her head held high through all. She is a true fighter with a strong will to live. It would be a tremendous help for whatever can be given to assist with medical expenses.
