My name is LaRae Derricote and I am the founder of Joshua’s Joy.
I created Joshua’s Joy in memory of my son, Joshua, who lost his life during a severe mental health crisis in 2020. His story is a heartbreaking reminder of how deeply mental illness can affect individuals and families—and how urgently we need greater awareness, compassion, and early support for our young people.
In 2026, Joshua’s Joy will launch a new initiative to provide mental health awareness wristbands to every middle and high school student in Indianapolis and surrounding communities. These wristbands are simple, but powerful. They serve as daily reminders that mental health matters, that it’s okay to ask for help, and that no one is alone.
Your donation will help us:
Produce and distribute wristbands to thousands of students
Spark conversations about mental health in schools
Reduce stigma and encourage early intervention
Honor Joshua’s life by helping protect others
Every contribution—no matter the size—brings us closer to reaching students who may be struggling silently. Together, we can create a culture where mental health is talked about openly, treated with compassion, and supported before a crisis occurs.
Thank you for considering a donation to Joshua’s Joy. Your support helps turn loss into purpose and remembrance into hope.
With gratitude,
LaRae
