We are reaching out with full hearts to ask for donations towards a DAD (Diabetic Alert Dog) for our amazing 6-year-old son, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in July 2025.
Our family of five, including our beloved fur baby has had our world turned upside down, but we are doing everything we can to give him the safest, happiest, and most active life possible.
His diagnosis came suddenly. While his dad was deployed overseas, I began noticing something wasn’t right. Excessive thirst, constant trips to the bathroom, and a feeling in my gut that couldn’t be ignored. Thanks to trusting those instincts and our favorite pediatrician who took us seriously, we were able to catch it before he went into DKA. Shortly after, dad was able to be red-crossed home to help us navigate this new reality as a whole family.
We spent two long nights and even a holiday on the hospital’s 10th floor, learning how to manage this autoimmune disease that we previously knew very little about. It was overwhelming, emotional, and life-changing. We are forever grateful to our parents who stepped in to care for our other children, and to his sisters, who have been incredibly supportive and eager to help in any way they can.
Our son is full of life. He loves lacrosse, soccer, wrestling, swimming, and hockey. He thrives outdoors whether he’s camping, at the beach, or just running around being a kid. We want him to keep doing all the things he loves, safely and confidently.
That’s why we are hoping to bring a Diabetic Alert Dog (DAD) into our lives.
A DAD is more than just a service dog they are a life-saving companion. These specially trained dogs can detect dangerous changes in blood sugar levels before they become emergencies, even during sleep. They provide an added layer of protection, independence, and peace of mind not just for our son, but for our entire family. They can alert us to highs and lows, reduce the risk of severe episodes, and allow him to participate more freely in school, sports, and everyday childhood moments.
Beyond the medical benefits, a DAD will be his constant companion and best friend offering comfort, confidence, and emotional support as he navigates life with diabetes.
We pray for a cure every single night. Until that day comes, we are committed to giving him every possible tool to live a full, joyful life.
