On August 5th, 2023, our lives changed forever. While on vacation in Destin, Florida, I went into emergency labor and had to be life-flighted to Pensacola, Florida. That’s where our son was born by emergency C-section at just 1 pound 9 ounces.
What was supposed to be a short trip turned into months of uncertainty, fear, and fighting for our baby’s life.
He spent an entire year in the NICU.
During that time, we were far from home, struggling financially, and eventually had to move while still trying to be there for him every single day. After months in Florida, he was finally transferred back home to New Orleans to Ochsner Baptist, where he underwent major procedures including diaphragm plication surgery and a PDA closure for his heart.
One of the hardest moments we faced was after one of his surgeries. We came to visit and found alarms going off in his room. We were told his oxygen levels had been rising for hours and no one knew why. When we rushed to him, his dad picked him up, and I noticed his oxygen line was kinked.
No one had even picked him up to check.
That moment changed everything for us. I quit my job so I could be by his side full-time and advocate for him. We pushed for a transfer to Children’s Hospital, where he later had a second diaphragm surgery.
Finally, after everything, we brought our baby home on July 22nd, 2024.
Since then, the fight hasn’t stopped.
We have been working hard through outpatient therapy and Early Steps services at home, doing everything we can to help him grow stronger. Recently, we started DMI/Triform therapy in Baton Rouge, and for the first time, we are seeing real progress toward him standing and walking.
Unfortunately, this therapy is not covered by our insurance.
We truly believe this is what our son needs to reach his full potential, but the cost is overwhelming.
We are asking for help to continue these life-changing therapies for our baby. Every donation, no matter the size, and every share means more than we can express.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for supporting our son’s journey.
