Our family is going through the most frightening time of our lives.

Our 15-year-old son was admitted to the ICU after becoming critically ill with acute kidney failure caused by severe rhabdomyolysis, a rare and life threatening condition that led to extreme muscle breakdown. His illness progressed rapidly, his muscle enzyme levels were dangerously high. He lost kidney function and had to be placed on continuous dialysis to keep his body stable.

Watching your child fight for his life is something no parent is ever prepared for. He has spent days in the ICU connected to machines, undergoing constant monitoring, blood work, and dialysis while doctors worked urgently to stabilize him and search for the underlying cause. What began after having the flu turned into a medical emergency that changed everything overnight.

While we are grateful to have gotten to the hospital on time, his recovery is still ongoing and uncertain. Kidney healing takes time, and he remains under close medical care. We are taking this one hour, one day at a time.

This has placed an overwhelming emotional and financial burden on our family. Between extended hospital stays, time away from work, medical expenses, travel, meals, and ongoing care needs, the costs are quickly adding up during a time when our only focus should be being by our son’s side.
