Hi! We are Lorenzo, Isaiah, and Sydney, and this is the fundraiser for our senior thesis film Amor y Muerte!
Logline: When a naive young woman discovers her boyfriend is cheating on her, she prays for revenge–and accidentally unleashes the Mexican folk deity Santa Muerte to deadly consequences.
Amor y Muerte is a twenty minute short film, blending the romance and thriller genres. This is a world where prayers have power, and you never know who will answer them. Love is lost, deals are brokered, and our protagonist must decide if the people that hurt us are worthy of our love. This story is built on lived experience: tales of La Llorona told before bedtime, staring out the stained glass windows of a Catholic church, and watching a Jordan Peele movie in theaters for the first time. Emotional and atmospheric, Amor y Muerte seeks to show people that those two themes go hand in hand.
Funds we receive will go towards the following:
- Film Festival fees
- On-set meals
- Props
- Rental Equipment
This is a very personal project to our team. Not only is it the culmination of our time in film school, but we are also very excited to tell a story about our culture. Each of us is Mexican-American, and hope to offer authentic representation in our part English, part Spanish spoken film. We want Amor y Muerte to elevate the voices and work of other Hispanic creatives! If you are able, we are immensely grateful for your contribution!
