Throughout the 2023-2024 school year, our homeschool science class has been studying Engineering Design and robotics. In January we put what we have learned to use in participating in the 2024 SeaPerch Challenge. We began (as a class of 36) following instructions to create the basic SeaPerch Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) by cutting and drilling PVC, wiring and soldering motors, and even soldering and creating a circuit board to build a remote control. We then tested our ROV's at a local pool to check for buoyancy, accuracy, and dexterity in the water. After testing, we modified the size and design of our ROVs accordingly in preparation for our class competition. From the class competition, four teams qualified and competed at the regional competition. 50 teams from Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts competed for 3 spots to advance to the international competition in DC! We are thrilled that our team won in two of three competitions and will be competing against teams from around the world to complete obstacles of speed and agility as well as modeling real life problems of collecting samples in a hydrothermal vent!
Our team of 6 high school boys and parts of their families will be traveling to Washington DC to compete on May 31 and June 1. This comes with a lot of financial commitment as we are excited for this opportunity! We would love if you would consider donating to our team's registration and travel costs. Thank you for considering! We will also post our website with pictures and links to share our experience! Check out the international team's website here PB&J Seaperch website
